Germany: Delta Lloyd enters the Frisian Solar Challenge in the Netherlands with a solar boat

Delta Lloyd is taking part in the Frisian Solar Challenge - the largest regatta for solar-powered boats in the world - with the Delta Lloyd Solar Boat from 22 to 28 June 2008.

Delta Lloyd is taking part in the Frisian Solar Challenge - the largest regatta for solar-powered boats in the world - with the Delta Lloyd Solar Boat from 22 to 28 June 2008. The race takes place in the Dutch province of Friesland and lasts for six days. The solar boats must complete the "11 towns route".

In winter, the most famous Dutch speed skating competition on natural ice is held on this route. The 220-kilometre route passes along rivers, lakes and canals through eleven towns in Friesland, covering six stages. Sixty crews have entered the race, from international educational establishments and business. All teams must prove that they have sufficient expertise to take part in the regatta.

The Delta Lloyd Solar Boat Team is a joint project of Delft University of Technology and the financial services provider, Delta Lloyd.

The shared aim of the joint venture is to win the Frisian Solar Challenge 2008 with a boat designed and built in-house, powered solely by the sun.

"With the Delta Lloyd L Water & Climate Fund, Delta Lloyd has a fund based on the four elements of water, air, earth and fire and invests in companies whose products and services are related to one of these four elements", says Ad Schellen, fund manager for Delta Lloyd L Water & Climate Fund.

"As we attach great importance to the area of solar energy, it is natural for us to sponsor a boat in this race to draw attention to the many possible ways of using solar power. We wish our team every success in the race and naturally hope they will win", continues Ad Schellen.
