The countdown to the Aviva Weekend to Breakthrough Breast Cancer has started. Thousands of people from across the UK, including more than 100 Aviva employees, are making their final preparations for the two 60km walks around London (15-17 September) and Birmingham (22-24 September).

The event, which promises to raise more than £5 million for Breakthrough Breast Cancer, has taken months of preparation.

Walkers have spent months fundraising and training for the weekend and the organisers have been busy ensuring that the event runs smoothly and is an enjoyable occasion for everybody.

During the three day event:

  • 37,000 meals will be served
  • 1,000 pink tents will be put up and taken down
  • 500 massages will be given to tired walkers
  • 34,020 kg of walker luggage will be transported
  • 16,520 litres of water will hydrate more than 4,000 walkers.

Aviva Canada has also been supporting similar walks in nine cities across Canada. Over the summer, Aviva has been sponsoring "pit stops" where the walkers can take a short break and have refreshments. Staff volunteers have helped organise the pit stops in each city.
