Parents of this year’s Aviva Ballkids will receive over $5 million of free life insurance from Aviva Australia.
In a first for Australian tennis, Aviva sponsored the 320 Ballkids in the 2005 Australian Open Tennis Championship.
Families of each of the eligible Aviva Ballkids received an offer for free life insurance of $50,000 for one parent until the child turned 18.
Of the families who took up the offer of insurance, 72 per cent insured the life of the mother.
According to Rob Donaghy, group director products, Marketing and Public Affairs, this offer recognises the commitment the whole family has to make when their child becomes an Aviva Ballkid.
"It is especially good to see the majority of families choosing to insure the mother, as traditionally it is the female partner who is under insured," said Rob.
Aviva Ballkids were selected from all over Melbourne plus one from each Australian state, and this year there were also representatives from New Zealand, China, Thailand, India and Korea.
"The sponsorship of the Aviva Ballkids recognised the excellent profile the Australian Open has throughout both the country and internationally, and the brand leveraging opportunities for Aviva.
"We were very pleased to be able to support the Aviva Ballkids and their families. Each of the ballkids received the amazing experience of being part of the Open and the free life insurance provides some recognition to the parents for the hard work done throughout the year," said Rob.
During the Open there was also a competition to find the best 2005 Aviva Ball boy and girl. The $1000 prize cheques from Aviva were awarded to Sam Letham from Glen Iris and Emily Martin from Mt Eliza.
