...to support local charities and community groups in Sutton.
A new fund focused on supporting local charities, Community Interest Companies (CICs) and grassroots organisations making a positive difference across Sutton has just launched, with applications live until 8 April.
The London Cancer Hub Fund is a commitment from Aviva as part of the expansion of the London Cancer Hub – the globally recognised centre for cancer research in Sutton, which recently received planning consent. This funding will ensure that the development of the site delivers meaningful benefits for local people alongside the delivery of world-leading science.
Delivered through Crowdfunder, the London Cancer Hub Fund is primarily funded by Aviva, with additional contributions from members of the wider London Cancer Hub professional team.
It will provide match funding of up to £5,000 per project to help community organisations reach their crowdfunding goals, supporting projects that:
- Improve health and wellbeing
- Strengthen community connections and local spaces
- Create opportunities for young people
- Inspire interest in science, discovery and innovation
The first funding round is now open for not-for-profit organisations based in, or supporting people in, the London Borough of Sutton. Applications can be submitted until 8 April.
The London Cancer Hub Fund is about backing the organisations that help Sutton thrive, helping the area get ready for the future.
Sophie White, Sector Head of Regeneration, at Aviva Capital Partners, said: “The London Cancer Hub is already one of the UK’s most important centres for cancer research and innovation, and as we support its continued growth, it’s vital that local communities feel the benefits too. The London Cancer Hub Fund is about backing the organisations that help Sutton thrive, helping the area get ready for the future. We’re proud to be supporting local not-for-profits to strengthen wellbeing, opportunity and connection alongside long-term investment in science and health.”
Daniel May, Director, Socius, said: “Socius is committed to ensuring the expansion of the London Cancer Hub delivers real benefits for local people alongside world-leading science. Having engaged with thousands of residents and community organisations across Sutton, this fund responds directly to local priorities and will help ensure communities share in the opportunities created by the Hub’s growth.”
Graeme Roy, Head of Partnerships, Crowdfunder, said: "When major investment comes to an area, it's imperative that the local organisations helping people every day feel the benefit too. This fund is a great example of how businesses are engaging communities in how funding is delivered to the grassroots organisations that make a real difference. We're proud to work with Aviva and Socius to deliver lasting benefits for the whole Sutton community."
Projects will be selected following an application and assessment process via Crowdfunder, with funding awarded in the coming months.
Alongside the launch of the London Cancer Hub Fund, Community Action Sutton is also preparing to launch a separate Healthy Lifestyle Fund on Crowdfunder in early March. This Fund will be resourced by Sutton Council and will offer further opportunities for local organisations.
The London Cancer Hub is being delivered by Aviva Capital Partners and Socius, in partnership with The Institute of Cancer Research, The Royal Marsden NHS Foundation Trust and the London Borough of Sutton. The expansion represents the next chapter in the evolution of an established, globally significant cancer district.
Full details on eligibility and how to apply are available via the Crowdfunder platform.
