Spain: Aviva achieves a 12% increase in net profit in Spain

With its Spanish operations, Aviva has achieved an after-tax profit to June 2009 of €71 million, 12% higher than the result recorded for the same period last year.

Results for the first half of 2009

  • This rise takes profits to €71 million
  • According to ICEA data, Aviva has a 7.4% market share
  • Aviva is ranked fourth in terms of funds under management (technical provisions and vested rights) with €13.37 billion

With its Spanish operations, Aviva has achieved an after-tax profit to June 2009 of €71 million, 12% higher than the result recorded for the same period last year.

Aviva’s turnover in Spain has reached €1.294 billion, of which €1.073 billion is from premiums written and €221 million from pension contributions.

The Aviva group has also achieved good results internationally, with sales of new life and pensions business reaching £19.421 billion and net premiums written standing at £4.947 billion for non-life business.

The after-tax profit from January to July was £1.049 billion, with a strong solvency surplus of £3.2 billion.

David Angulo, CEO of Aviva Spain, talked about these positive results, at a time of such exceptional economic circumstances, in the following terms: “We’ve adopted a prudent profit management strategy. Nevertheless, our priority is still to consolidate our position of strength and leadership, from which we can exploit new opportunities. In addition, all the actions we’ve implemented this year, together with and in line with our efforts to reduce costs, will give Aviva the necessary financial and operational flexibility to undertake new projects and take advantage of opportunities.”
