The board of Hibernian Group has today announced the appointment of David Simpson as its new chairman with immediate effect.

David succeeds Dónal Byrne, whose term of office as chairman has now come to a conclusion following 10 years of valued service to the group. Dónal continues as chairman of Norwich Union International.
David was a founding partner of Simpson Xavier in Ireland in 1982 and went on to become the managing partner of BDO Simpson Xavier. A former president of the Institute of Chartered Accountants in Ireland, David has been senior independent director on the board of the Hibernian Group since October 2007.
Commenting on David's appointment, Stuart Purdy, Hibernian Group chief executive, said: "I am delighted that David has agreed to take on the role of chairman of Hibernian and under his leadership we look forward to his insight and financial skills bringing a considerable amount of benefit to us. His wealth of business experience will be a strong asset to Hibernian as the company meets future challenges".
On behalf of the board, Stuart Purdy thanked Dónal Byrne for his significant contribution both as chairman and as board member over the last 10 years.

David Simpson retired from the firm of BDO Simpson Xavier, the Irish member of the BDO International Network. David was the founding partner of Simpson Xavier in Ireland in 1982 and the firm has 45 partners and over 500 staff in Dublin, Cork, Limerick and Belfast. David was educated at University College, Dublin and qualified as a chartered accountant with SKC (KPMG).
David served as managing partner of Simpson Xavier from 1987 until 1993 and served in various roles in the BDO International network.
While leading the firm, David was extensively involved in the Profession in various roles, most notably as president of the Institute of Chartered Accountants in Ireland.

Hibernian's full year results for the year ended 31 December 2007 produced an operating profit of €352.9m (2006: €188.9m).
