RAC has been named Breakdown and Recovery Company 2007 by the Institute of Transport Management.
Research conducted by the Award's Committee of the Institute of Transport Management, resulted in RAC coming out on top for offering quality motoring benefits with the highest levels of service throughout the UK and Europe.
The research identified companies in the field of roadside assistance and recovery, who have demonstrated their ability to respond effectively and professionally to the needs of the fleet manager.
Abu Shafi, director of corporate partnerships at RAC, said: "This is a fantastic achievement which demonstrates our ongoing commitment to fleet managers and the efficient service we provide.
"We are constantly investing in our rescue service to add even greater value for our customers and we work hard to provide state-of-the-art solutions designed to minimise vehicle downtime," he added.
RAC patrols are equipped with RAC scan, a handheld diagnostic scanner to assess a vehicle's state and if the repair has to be done off-road, saving the customer unnecessary waiting time. The Rapid Deployment Trailer, which enables RAC to provide assistance in moving vehicles from the roadside rather than the customer waiting for a second vehicle to do the job, has also proved to significantly reduce downtime.
Patrick Sheedy, media and PR director for the Institute of Transport Management said: "Breakdown assistance companies need to offer an efficient and reliable service that will encourage customer retention and brand loyalty. By investing in membership with RAC, fleet operators can be assured of an enhanced level of customer care and increased profits."

About RAC
With around seven million members, RAC is one of the UK's most progressive motoring organisations, providing services for both private and business motorists. Whether it's roadside assistance, windscreen repair and replacement, learning to drive, vehicle inspections and checks, legal and financial services or up-to-the-minute traffic and travel information - RAC is able to meet motorists' needs. RAC incorporates BSM, RAC Auto Windscreens, RAC Direct Insurance and HPI.
Aviva bought RAC in May 2005. The acquisition brings together RAC's powerful brand and customer base with the expertise and leading position in motor insurance of Norwich Union Insurance (part of Aviva). Norwich Union is the UK's largest insurer, insuring one in seven motor vehicles and with a market share of around 15%.
