UK: Morley Property strengthens pan-European indirect investment business

Morley, Europe’s largest property fund manager has appointed James Cooksey to the position of fund manager in its Multi Manager business as an internal promotion.

Morley, Europe’s largest property fund manager* has appointed James Cooksey to the position of fund manager in its Multi Manager business as an internal promotion.

Nick Mansley, property strategy & indirect investment director at Morley Fund Management, said: “Our pan-European securities and multi-manager business is in an exciting growth phase right now with the team having just expanded and business growing to over €3 billion in assets under management. Morley has been ranked number one for the last two years by size and number of indirect vehicles out of 368 players in the UK market.**

“We are delighted to be able to promote James to this role. He comes with over ten years’ experience of both direct and indirect fund management and most recently has been managing a fund with a substantial indirect exposure for Morley. We are actively recruiting for a replacement for his previous role.

“The boundaries between unlisted and listed indirect property investments are becoming increasingly blurred, notably by the growth of REITs, and clients are looking for pan-European ‘best ideas’ that look across the indirect investment spectrum. We are committed to growing this part of our business and to continuing to deliver strong performance and top investment products to our clients.”

James Cooksey joined the investment industry in 1996 joining Morley in October 1999. Upon joining the firm (as Norwich Union) he originally worked in what is now the Morley Pooled Pensions Fund as an asset manager. Subsequently he worked as an assistant fund manager on Norwich Property Trust for nearly five years.

Morley also recently hired Paul van de Vaart from ABP (Europe’s largest pension fund) where he was responsible for €4.5 billion of property securities, to lead Morley’s real estate securities capability. Morley also recently hired Zoe Collier as an analyst for the team.
