Morley Fund Management, one of the UK’s largest active fund managers, has recruited sell-side derivatives specialist David Barbour as part of a major initiative to bolster Morley’s derivative capabilities and operations.

David joins Morley in October and will be responsible for setting up a legal framework to manage and control the use of derivative instruments. He will also be reviewing Morley’s contracts between market counterparties.

Morley Fund Management’s head of investment business management Dr Jez Bezant said David’s appointment was an exciting development and an important part of growing Morley’s derivatives capability.

“Derivatives have become an integral part of investment management and a growing number of clients are more aware of the potential for inclusion of derivatives in their portfolios. We need to make sure we are equipped to select and manage these instruments more widely.

“David’s extensive experience in commercial negotiation will help us negotiate more favourable terms with market counterparties. We are delighted that he is joining the team,” he said.

David will report to Jez Bezant, head of investment business management.

Prior to joining Morley, David worked at Lehman Brothers as a senior ISDA negotiator. Before this, he worked for Standard Bank PLC as manager of documentation for more than five years.

He has extensive experience in banking and financial markets, including more than 13 years experience in derivatives and other traded market documentation.
