Morley Fund Management, one of the UK’s largest active fund managers, has bolstered its Socially Responsible Investment (SRI) team with the appointment of a new analyst.
Dr Steve Waygood, Chair of the UK Social Investment Forum, joins Morley in November in the newly created role of head of SRI engagement. Steve will implement Morley’s SRI engagement and voting program and work closely with the corporate governance team to coordinate all environmental, social and governance voting.
Chief investment officer Katherine Garrett-Cox said Dr Waygood’s appointment was tangible evidence of Morley’s commitment to growing its SRI business.
“We are delighted that such a high calibre individual has joined the team. More institutional investors are asking for universally accepted SRI principles to be used when managing their portfolios. They want us to not only maximise profit but also to ensure the long term sustainability of the portfolio and the companies we invest in.
“Steve’s expertise in analysis of corporate responsibility performance, combined with his experience in company engagement, is a welcomed skill set and will help us meet investors’ demands,” she said.
Prior to joining Morley, Steve worked for Insight Investment where he was a director in the investor responsibility team. He has also worked for Friends Ivory and Sime (now F&C) as a senior analyst in the governance and SRI team. He has 10 years’ industry experience and has a PhD in SRI.
Firms within the Morley group of companies manage in excess of Ł156 billion with Ł900 million in active SRI equity and bond mandates*. Morley was also recently appointed one of five fund managers for FRR’s €600 million SRI mandate.
Morley was ranked the number one fund manager for its understanding of socially responsible investing (SRI) and extra-financial issues in the latest Thomson Extel SRI and Extra-Financial Survey released last month.
