Morley boosts fixed income business

Morley Fund Management, one of Europe’s largest fund managers, has appointed Holly Grainger as a credit analyst in its fixed income team.

Morley Fund Management, one of Europe’s largest fund managers, has appointed Holly Grainger as a credit analyst in its fixed income team. Holly joins Morley in November and will report to Tim Barker who was appointed as head of credit Analysis in June. She brings eight years industry experience and joins from F&C where she was a credit analyst. Previously, she was the lead pan-European equities analyst at Baring Asset Management for seven years.

Morley has also boosted its fixed income business with appointments to two new roles: Steve Barker as fixed income product specialist and Malika Gulabani as client director. They both joined Morley this summer and report to Paul Waters, head of client services.

Trained as an actuary and later a fund manager, Steve brings 14 years experience with him including senior investment consultancy roles at PricewaterhouseCoopers, Gissings and, most recently, SBJ Benefit Consultants, where he was head of the investment practice.

Malika brings eight years of investment industry experience and joins from Schroders Investment Management, where she worked for four years as a fixed income and money market fund manager. Her investment career began in fixed income sales at Williams de Broe.

Steve is responsible for ensuring that Morley’s fixed income product range is refined and expanded to reflect the changing demands of clients and the wider marketplace. Malika will assume responsibility for relationships with Morley’s cash and liquidity product clients, working in a newly created client service team dedicated to the public sector.

Ceris Williams, head of fixed income at Morley Fund Management, commented on the Holly’s appointment: “Fixed income is one of Morley’s traditional strengths and I’m delighted to see our team grow with Holly’s appointment. We’re making sure our entire fixed income offering stays at the forefront of the industry. We aim to give clients access to a full range of products and performance objectives, using the benefits of extensive diversification to give a high return/risk outcome. Core-plus bond management is the preserve of a large well-resourced fund house and having a big quality team like ours gives us a huge advantage in offering added value to our clients.”

Paul Waters, head of client services, added: “We’re committed to developing proactive, practical and innovative investment solutions for our fixed income clients and having both Steve and Malika join Morley will help us provide these clients with the highest standards of service. They will make an invaluable contribution to our achieving these objectives.“

Earlier this year, Morley was appointed to manage a fixed income mandate on behalf of Kelda Group Pension Plan. The mandate is managed by Mark Gull, corporate bond fund manager, and is invested in corporate bonds and gilts. Last October, Morley added a new high performance corporate bond fund to its pooled pension fund range, The MPPL High Alpha Corporate Bond Fund, which launched on 1 October 2004.

With over Ł134 billion in funds under management, Morley manages more than Ł69 billion in fixed income assets and has more than 40 fixed income investment professionals. Morley’s Credit team manages more than Ł23 billion in asset.
