Morley Fund Management, one of the UK’s largest fund managers with Ł111 billion under management, has completed the revamp of its UK equity team with the appointment of two new fund managers.
The UK equities team is now at full strength with the addition of two leading investment professionals to its core team:
- Martin Cawthorne was a founding director of Threadneedle and a senior member of the UK equity team where he managed institutional portfolios and was responsible for Ł4 billion of assets. Martin was appointed in July to manage Morley’s UK institutional equity portfolios, particularly the pooled pension funds. He brings 19 years of investment experience from Threadneedle and Allied Dunbar.
- Lloyd Whitworth was appointed in June to manage unit-linked life funds. He joins Morley from JP Morgan Investment Management where he was a UK and pan-European fund manager. He brings 13 years of experience in UK equities from companies including Dresdner RCM and Allied Dunbar.
Since Katherine Garrett-Cox became chief investment officer in March this year, Morley has restructured and strengthened its equity operations to complement its highly rated fixed income and property teams.
The UK equity team, which manages Ł25.5 billion of funds for institutional, retail and life clients, was split into two teams to improve focus on delivering better investment performance for clients.
The UK core team manages the active components of the with-profits and unit-linked life funds on a satellite basis, capitalising on different fund manager styles – primarily growth and value.
The UK specialist & smaller companies team, which is led by senior Morley fund manager, David Lis, uses higher outperformance targets and focuses on the life cycle of companies – seeking out smaller companies, which achieve exponential growth to become larger companies.
Katherine Garrett-Cox, CIO of Morley Fund Management said: "We now have the team firing on all cylinders to build a world-class equity operation and deliver investment returns for our clients. All the individuals joining Morley bring great depth of experience, and are as passionate about the investment business as we are."
