Canada: Aviva’s policyholders in New Brunswick receiving rebates

Rebates for the owners of 17,000 vehicles insured by Aviva Canada (formerly CGU) in New Brunswick are being processed this week, thanks to the approval for insurance rate decreases in the province.

Cheques have already been sent to some of these policyholders, and the remainder will be rebated by December 9, 2003. The amount each policyholder receives will differ depending on policy, geographic and risk details.

In total, Aviva Canada is issuing more than $2,000,000 in rebate cheques to its automobile insurance customers in New Brunswick.

These rebates are due to the New Brunswick Public Utility Board’s approval for overall rate decreases for Aviva companies operating in the province. The resulting benefit for Aviva’s policyholders in New Brunswick is as follows:

  • Aviva Insurance Company policies: decrease 6.8%
  • Elite Vantage Plus policies: decrease 26%
  • Traders Insurance policies: decrease 6.5%

“We are delighted with the progress made in New Brunswick,” says Igal Mayer, Aviva’s president and CEO. “Auto insurance premiums have been a great concern to the province’s residents. We are pleased that the situation is getting better and confident it will continue to improve.

“Together, the insurance industry and government of New Brunswick have been working to address your concerns with a goal to reduce insurance costs, and ultimately, your rates.”

“Rebates and rate reductions are the first step in demonstrating to consumers that things are improving and that competition and choice in auto insurance is still the best option for New Brunswick,” adds Jennifer Power, senior vice-president of Aviva’s Atlantic region.
