Bhavani's story: New beginnings can happen at any age
Starting a new career at 40, with zero experience in insurance, was a big leap. But I’ve learned that it’s never too late to try something new, especially when it brings you joy and a sense of purpose.
Working in the Travel Insurance team, I speak with people every day, helping them feel confident and cared for as they plan their trips. The job calls for empathy, patience, clear communication, and a good bit of multitasking - all skills I’ve built up with every conversation.
Having empathy for others
One call that really stayed with me came from a mum who was worried about her 25-year-old son. The banking partner travel policy usually only covers dependants up to age 23. But her son, who has cerebral palsy and global developmental delay, has been dependent on her since birth.
She was anxious. Would he be left without cover while traveling?
I knew this wasn’t a standard case, so I escalated it to our underwriting team and explained the situation. Looking further into the case, they approved cover for her son - not just when travelling with her, but also when he occasionally travels with his dad.
Why my job matters
She was incredibly grateful. She told us how much this meant to her, not just financially, but emotionally. Knowing her son would be protected meant everything to her.
This sort of thing is why I love what I do. We’re not just here to process policies - we listen, we act, and we care. Behind every policy is a person, a family and a story.
Helping people through uncertain times is at the heart of my job.
