Aviva targets underserved construction risks with new digital Contractors Combined proposition

Aviva has launched a new digitally traded Contractors Combined proposition, enabling brokers to place a wider range of construction risks quickly and online - reducing reliance on manual processes and improving speed to market.

The proposition addresses a clear gap in the contractors’ market, where many risks remain outside existing eTrade solutions and require manual underwriting - slowing placement and limiting broker efficiency.

Aviva’s new Contractors Combined product is available on Acturis and will follow shortly on Aviva’s own Fast Trade platform. The product combines liability and wider commercial covers together in a single, modular policy that brokers can quote, customise and bind in real time.

The proposition is available for both self-employed and more established small to mid-sized contractors’ businesses in the construction sector, and has a defined underwriting appetite with clear acceptance criteria, helping to reduce referrals when placing a risk.

Core cover includes public liability, with limits of £1 million, £2 million or £5 million, alongside a range of optional covers including employers’ liability (up to £10 million), contract works, own and hired-in plant, and buildings, contents and business interruption.

By bringing cover into a single digital journey, brokers can reduce placement time, avoid splitting risks across multiple policies, and improve customer experience.

Aviva is one of a small number of insurers offering a fully e-traded Contractors Combined solution, positioning it strongly in a market where digital capability remains limited.

The launch represents a further step in Aviva’s strategy to expand digital trading and support brokers to grow in key SME segments.

The proposition includes real-time quote-and-buy, instant documentation, and built-in underinsurance alerts for buildings sums insured. Customers also benefit from access to Aviva’s BusinessLaw service, legal advice helpline, and risk support services.

The product is backed by Aviva’s dedicated digital underwriting team in Perth, giving brokers access to support and expertise where needed.

“Brokers have told us they want to place more Contractors Combined business online - not just liability, but a broader mix of risks,” said Rebecca Gambrell, Managing Director, SME & Delegated Authorities at Aviva.

“This launch helps us address an underserved part of the market while making digital trading simpler and more flexible. With a clear appetite, real-time journey and modular cover, we’re enabling brokers to build the right solution for each client and trade more efficiently. The launch represents a further step in Aviva’s strategy to expand digital trading and support brokers to grow in key SME segments.”
