Aviva expands access to Tembo mortgage support for workplace pension customers

Aviva has expanded access to Tembo's mortgage support service following a successful pilot, making it an established part of its workplace pension proposition. The service is now available to a broader range of workplace pension clients and their employees, helping more people access specialist mortgage guidance and support with home ownership aspirations.

The benefit forms part of Aviva's wider commitment to supporting financial wellbeing, recognising that many employees are balancing competing financial priorities alongside long-term retirement saving. By providing access to mortgage expertise through Tembo, Aviva aims to help employees better understand their borrowing options and navigate the challenges of property affordability.

The Financial Conduct Authority (FCA) recently[1] launched a consultation on proposals which aim to help more people, such as first-time buyers, access mortgages.

Tembo specialises in helping homebuyers and homeowners explore a wider range of mortgage solutions. Tembo offers access to approximately 110 lenders and can identify specialist products, family-assisted mortgage options and affordability-enhancing solutions that may help people increase borrowing potential, secure larger deposits or access the housing market sooner.

Developed through Aviva's partnership with Founders Factory, Tembo has now become an established part of Aviva's workplace financial wellbeing offering. The business has been recognised as the UK's Best Mortgage Broker at the British Bank Awards for four consecutive years between 2022 and 2026.

By giving our workplace pension customers access to Tembo, we’re aiming to help people escape the rental trap and become home owners - a key component of broader long-term financial wellbeing.

Through their partnership with Founders Factory, Aviva backed the business from its inception in April 2021, investing in their seed round with further investments in later funding rounds.

Simon Ellis, Director of Workplace Pensions at Aviva, said: “We know that owning a home is at the heart of many people’s financial goals. By giving our workplace pension customers access to Tembo, we’re aiming to help people escape the rental trap and become home owners - a key component of broader long-term financial wellbeing. The addition of Tembo also aims to help employers by enabling them to offer meaningful support to their workforce. This is another step towards our commitment to preparing savers for better retirements.”

Richard Dana, Tembo’s CEO, added: "We've been proud to work alongside Aviva to help more people understand and improve their mortgage options. As affordability pressures continue to affect many households, access to expert guidance and innovative mortgage solutions has never been more important. By working with Aviva, we're helping employers provide practical support to their workforce and giving more people the tools they need to achieve their home ownership ambitions."
