Aviva Master Trust has passed £20 billion in assets under management (AUM), marking a major milestone for one of the UK’s largest commercial master trusts[1]. It comes at a time when scale and service continue to dominate the defined contribution pensions market.
The master trust now supports more than 650 participating employers and safeguards the retirement savings of over 650,000 members across the UK.
This milestone has been reached through new employers choosing the Aviva Master Trust as their workplace pension provider, continued growth through existing contributions, and strong investment performance.
The growth also reflects higher demand from specialist sectors, including independent schools and universities, as those employers look for governance, investment capability and member support at scale.
Throughout this year, Aviva has also continued to develop its master trust proposition through innovation:
- My Future Vision has been added as a selectable default solution. This option represents a significant evolution in defined contribution pension investing, allocating 20–25% of assets to private markets depending on where members are on the path to retirement, while providing access to specialist asset managers with experience across global private markets.
- Aviva’s new financial wellbeing tool is designed to help workplace pension members better understand and manage their financial health, while giving employers and trustees insight into engagement levels so they can tailor support more effectively. The free tool is available to Aviva Master Trust members through the Aviva app and online pension portal.
- Aviva is also increasingly using artificial intelligence to better support its customer-facing operations teams, helping them respond to member needs more effectively while maintaining its focus on service quality.
This is an important milestone for the Aviva Master Trust and reflects its strong, sustainable growth.
Louise Williamson, Head of Aviva Master Trust, said: “This is an important milestone for the Aviva Master Trust and reflects its strong, sustainable growth. We're grateful to the employers and advisers who trust us with their workplace pension provision and have helped make this achievement possible. Scale matters because it gives us greater scope to innovate through technology and deliver service improvements which support the employers and members that we’re here to serve.”
Dr. Chris Noon, Chair of the Aviva Master Trust, said: “It is great to see the Aviva Master Trust reach this milestone and not least because behind the numbers are people who are investing in their future - and that's what really matters. We are thankful to our employers, advisers and members for the confidence they have in the scheme. The Trustee Board is focused on making sure that growth continues to deliver real benefits and good outcomes for members.”
