Two cats, two dogs: UK's most popular names for pet pairs

  • Most popular names for pairs of cats – Charlie and Lola*
  • Most popular names for pairs of dogs – Poppy and Daisy
  • Direct Line offers 15 per cent off for new pet customers and an additional 15 per cent discount if customers insure more than one pet on the policy

Direct Line Pet Insurance reveals that Charlie and Lola and Poppy and Daisy are the most popular names for pairs of cats and dogs, respectively. Charlie is the most popular name across both cats and dogs – appearing five times in the top ten dog names.

Many names are influenced by popular culture with Tom and Jerry, Sooty and Sweep and Bonnie and Clyde all in the top ten lists across both cat and dog names. Interestingly, cat owners have an affinity for naming their pets after food with Bubble and Squeak and Toffee and Treacle proving popular.

Direct Line is offering 15 per cent off any new pet policy from January 8th 2014** and 15 per cent multi-pet discount if more than one pet is insured on the same policy.

Edd Barclay, head of pet insurance, Direct Line said: “Owning more than one cat or dog can be great fun for both pets and their owners. Animals tend to get more exercise and necessary pet-to-pet socialisation. Caring for a pet can also be very costly, particularly when veterinary care is required, so we would urge all pet owners to ensure their feline and canine friends are covered.”
