Aviva in collaboration with Aldeas Infantiles SOS, supports “International Street Children’s Day”, which is celebrated every year on 12 April with a view to raising the awareness of society and governments of the situation of street children.
- International Street Children’s Day was born in 2011 as a joint initiative of the Consortium for Street Children, CSC, and Aviva, with a view to raising the awareness at the level of governments and society of the danger of exclusion of street children.
- The support achieved through the platform will be transferred in June to the High Commission for Human Rights of the United Nations.
- The campaign is set within Aviva’s global RSC programme entitled “From Street to College”, which manifests in Spain through a joint project with Aldeas Infantiles SOS.
Aviva, the first European life and pensions insurance group, in collaboration with Aldeas Infantiles SOS, supports “International Street Children’s Day”, which is celebrated every year on 12 April with a view to raising the awareness of society and governments of the situation of street children, the definition of whom covers both the children who live and/or work in the street, and those at risk of lack of protection or social exclusion.
The major objective is that citizens and institutions be able to contribute to the international support through the platform of International Street Children’s Day. This support will be transferred in June to the High Commission for Human Rights of the United Nations.
International Street Children’s Day was born in 2011 of Consortium for Street Children (CSC) in collaboration with Aviva, which participates through its global campaign “From Street to College”. With this, it intends to ensure that more than 500,000 street children from all over the world gain access to the educational systems of their respective countries. So far, Aviva has helped 400,000 children by participating in different projects put into effect in collaboration with various associations and NGO’s of each country.
The participation of Aviva in Spain manifests in its collaboration as “Constructor of the Future” of the Corporate Platform of Aldeas Infantiles SOS. Fulfilling its promise as a socially responsible company, Aviva will carry out various activities of distribution and awareness among its employees, raising funds which will be allocated to this association during the day of the event at its offices in Spain. Among other projects, Aldeas Infantiles SOS is developing different activities that promote prevention, care and social inclusion for those minors who find themselves in a situation of risk of social exclusion or lack of protection.
Ignacio Izquierdo, managing director of Aviva, has noted that: “From Aviva España we wish to join this campaign in favour of children, because they are our future. On 'Internacional Street Children’s Day', we unite in the joint call to governments and society to push for a change in attitudes towards the children who live in this situation, in order to help them develop their potential and allow them the same opportunities as those who benefit from better living conditions.”
Pedro Puig, director general of Aldeas Infantiles SOS España, adds on his part: “We cannot allow street children to be ignored. When a minor lives without protection he faces terrible situations of violence and exploitation that no child should have to suffer. I therefore applaud the initiative of Aviva and of the Consortium for Street Children. I join them in this project which serves to give a voice to the children, and I reiterate my commitment to offer every child a home to live in.”
