Aviva, the leading life insurance group in the country, has announced the appointment of Neil Stewart as corporate financial and actuarial director, replacing Constancio Picazo, who will go on to hold the post of corporate strategy and planning director.
Aviva, the leading life insurance group in the country, has announced the appointment of Neil Stewart as corporate financial and actuarial director, replacing Constancio Picazo, who will go on to hold the post of corporate strategy and planning director. Both appointments took effect as from 1 January 2012 and form part of the Management Committee of Aviva España.
Neil Stewart joined Aviva in 1992, and more recently occupied the post of financial risk director and ALM in Aviva Europa. He has extensive experience in the business and model of Aviva in Spain, and held the post of corporate actuarial director of Aviva España from 2002 to 2009, where he was responsible for the actuarial area.
Ignacio Izquierdo, managing director of Aviva, commented on this incorporation to the Spanish team that “the experience of Neil in the financial and actuarial sectors at both national and European level gives us a very important added value which will help us to continue to be leaders in life insurance products”.
Neil Stewart affirms: “My passage through Europe has been of fundamental significance in broadening my knowledge of the business in the region, assessing the existing cultural differences and actually focussing on financial risks in very turbulent times. We currently work within a difficult economic context but I am convinced that it is full of opportunities for a group such as Aviva, and that it will face up to this new challenge with the greatest of understanding and imagination.”
On his part, Constancio Picazo states: “My experience in insurance banking over the past 10 years, in which Aviva has not ceased to grow and which have allowed it to earn a leadership position in life insurance, has been very rewarding and of great value for my new responsibilities, even more so in a key moment for the financial sector of this country such as the one we are experiencing now.”
