Aviva, the top European life insurance and pensions group, today presented the Aviva Savings and Pensions Institute, a new platform for research and debate which will address in greater depth the matter of pensions and long-term savings within the current social context.
Guillermo de la Dehesa, chairman of the board of directors of Aviva Spain and chairman of the Forum of Experts, Ignacio Izquierdo, managing director of Aviva Spain, and Juan José Velasco, R&D director of Aviva Spain, will be responsible for the presentation of the Institute. The Forum of Experts was represented by José Antonio Herce, Juan José Dolado and César Molinas.
The activity of the Aviva Savings and Pensions Institute is centred on three areas of action: the work of research and reflection of the Forum of Experts, a key part of the Institute, the generation of periodical studies on the subject of pensions and long-term savings, and the development of tools of analysis, assistance and consultancy for citizens.
Guillermo de la Dehesa declared that: “Meeting points such as the Aviva Savings and Pensions Institute are fundamental for promoting social debate and citizens’ awareness in favour of sustainable savings and taking responsible financial decisions. In order to do this, the conclusions taken from the meetings of the Forum of Experts, together with the studies and documents generated by the platform, will be at the disposal of public and private institutions and groups of interest.”
The Forum of Expertos, consisting of professionals and scholars of reference, will meet to analyse studies, documents and topical matters related with this framework, always guaranteeing independence of opinion to each of its members. The first meeting of the Forum of Experts will take place in the month of October, and it will cover the text of the latest pensions reform carried out by the Government.
Members of the Forum of Experts:
- Guillermo de la Dehesa (chairman), chairman of the board of directors of Aviva Spain
- Ignacio Conde Ruiz, professor at Complutense University and senior researcher of FEDEA
- Juan José Dolado, professor of the Department of Economics at Carlos III University of Madrid
- Rafael Domenech, chief economist for Spain and Europe of the Research Department of BBVA
- Ángel de la Fuente, research economist of the CSIC
- José Antonio Herce, partner and director of AFI
- Cesar Molinas, doctor in Economics and Mathematics.
With regard to the work of the Institute as a generator of studies, Ignacio Izquierdo affirmed that: “Aviva had already carried out the study entitled A Significant Deficit in 2010, which quantified the savings deficit prevalent in Spain and Europe. The launch of this Institute reflects the intention of Aviva to abide by its long-term commitment to seek solutions and ways forward on the subject of pensions and savings.”
The first study generated by the Aviva Savings and Pensions Institute is entitled “Providing information on pensions in Europe”. It gives a thorough review of the type of information received by the citizens of 35 countries, including Spain, on the subject of public and private pensions, as well as the tools at their disposal to take long-term saving decisions.
