Aviva is recognised as a leader in Corporate Responsibility

We’re very proud that we have once again been recognised for our continued commitment to corporate responsibility in two important indexes in the Dow Jones Sustainability Indexes.

We’re very proud that we have once again been recognised for our continued commitment to corporate responsibility (CR) in two important indexes in the Dow Jones Sustainability Indexes (DJSI) announced on 8 September.

We’ve been listed in the DJSI World Index and the DJSI Europe Index, both of which have stringent inclusion criteria. The DJSI World Index captures only the top 10% sustainable companies out of the biggest 2,500 companies worldwide, while the DJSI Europe features only the top 20% sustainable businesses out of 600 European-based companies.

Companies are measured on their economic, environmental and social performance, as well as on issues such as corporate governance, risk management, branding, climate change mitigation, supply chain standards and labour practices. Our overall score is 71%, with the best company in our sector (insurance) scoring 80%.

We have been highly commended, scoring 100% for how we report our environmental data, and we achieved the top score of 98% for our environmental policy and management system.

This is excellent news for us in the year that we announced our long-term carbon reduction target of 30% by 2020. We are well on way to this with a 17% reduction achieved from 2006-2009 through energy saving initiatives, increased use of telepresence to cut down on business travel, and fitting fuel saving devices to the RAC fleet.

We also scored highly on our community investment initiatives, the way we report our business risks and the way in which we engage with our stakeholders.
