Hibernian Aviva Health is supporting Barnardos, Ireland’s leading children’s charity this Christmas by offering to contribute €50 for new health policies signed up during a four week period from 30 November to 30 December.

To get the campaign underway Hibernian Aviva Health has committed an initial €10,000 to the charity which will be used to fund the vital work that Barnardos does with children and families in over 42 projects throughout Ireland. Hibernian Aviva Health’s campaign is a direct response to Barnardos’ urgent appeal for help to keep their services open as the leading charity faces a projected 20% shortfall in voluntary funds in 2009 with a further substantial gap predicted for 2010.

Barnardos chief executive Fergus Finlay said: “We truly appreciate the support of Hibernian Aviva Health. For many of the children and families we work with, Christmas is an exceptionally difficult time. The Celtic Tiger never reached their homes and recent cuts in education, social welfare and increased waiting lists for vital services are weighing ever more heavily on those families who already had so little. Support like this will help us to continue our work with more than 5,500 children and hopefully bring them some comfort this festive season.”

Launching the campaign, Jim Dowdall, managing director of Hibernian Aviva Health said that the work that Barnardos does to support children and families whose happiness and wellbeing are under threat is without parallel.

“Our business in Hibernian Aviva Health is about providing security and peace of mind. At no other time is this more important than Christmas. New members signing up will have an option to support Barnardos or get a voucher for Smyths Toy Store. Either way, we are looking out for families this Christmas. And I know Barnardos will make excellent use of every donation,” he said.

“This year we have seen huge numbers of people switching their health insurance to Hibernian Aviva and we expect that this will continue right through to the end of the year as consumers increasingly recognise that our health policies are better value and provide more benefits than our competitors. When they sign up over the coming weeks they will have the additional comfort of knowing that they will be helping Barnardos as they look out for the many thousands of children and families that are in need of our support,” he added.

By switching to Hibernian Aviva Health before the 30 December 2009, you can choose to have Hibernian Aviva Health donate €50 to Barnardos on your behalf or receive a €50 Smyth Toys gift card. The offer is open to new policy holders only and is open for four weeks only from 30 November 2009 to 30 December 2009.
