Biggest source of irritation on the water
Around 59% of Dutch water sports enthusiasts are irritated on the water by the dumping of rubbish by other water sports enthusiasts. In addition to the dumping of rubbish, sailing (too) fast and not being aware of the rules of sailing also come out as a major source of irritation. Around 75% of water sports enthusiasts are seeking peace and quiet on the water. What is striking is that 15% fill their time on the water by making love. These are the findings of the very first National Water Sports Survey undertaken by Eileen in collaboration with Delta Lloyd and the HISWA Association. The results have been published previously at the HISWA In-Water Boat Show in IJmuiden.

Boats are not always insured
Around 18% of boat owners have not insured their boats and 4% don't know if they have or not. Worthy of note is the fact that both cover for damage to the vessel itself and damage which is caused to others by the vessel, so-called statutory liability, have not been provided through insurance.

This is specifically a ban on drainage from on-board toilets on all vessels. 65% of boat owners are not aware of this ban. Around 20% have already taken steps to get rid of waste water. 30% have not yet done so. The ban is not applicable to the remainder.
