The first pleasure boats to be stolen, insured with Delta Lloyd and fitted with a tracking and tracing system, have been recovered. This relates to the theft of a sloop (the Maril 730, worth €70,000) and a speedboat (the Rancraft 22, worth €45,000). Since March 2008 over 600 boats insured with Delta Lloyd have been fitted with tracking and tracing. In 2007, nationally only 6% of the total number of stolen pleasure boats were recovered.
Prevention using the tracking and tracing system
A tracking and tracing system ensures that - as soon as it is discovered that the boat has been stolen - its exact location can be detected. Thanks to this, owners have usually had their boats back pretty quickly. The fitting of tracking and tracing to pleasure boats places technical demands on the system. Systems are approved if they conform to the EBV01, category 3, standard.

The average pay-out for a stolen pleasure boat is around €15,000. The total pay-out in 2007 for stolen boats amounts to almost €13 million. (Source - KLPD)
