From 7 April until 2 May customers will be able to invest their money in the latest structured product from Commercial Union - CU Guarantee New Energy. By investing in this product, they will be able to take advantage of the dynamic development of the alternative energy sector.

Since 2007 Commercial Union has offered structured products under the name CU Guarantee in the form of individual life and endowment insurance. These products protect the capital invested by the customer, and at the same time enable him to earn money on international financial markets. Up until now there have been three types of product on offer: CU Guarantee Polish Shares Plus, CU Guarantee Global Investments and CU Guarantee Global Investments II.

The product which is currently available, CU Guarantee New Energy, allows the customer to invest in the shares of companies in the alternative energy sector (wind energy, water energy, solar power, geothermal energy and biomass). "This is one of the most dynamic, developing sectors of the world economy, and activity within this sector meets with a positive social reaction," highlights Marek Przybylski, president of CU TFI and CU Investment Management (the company which manages the shares of CU Życie (CU Life)). The product is tracked by the RBS Enhanced Green trade index which was drawn up by the Royal Bank of Scotland, one of the oldest banks in Britain. The funds are invested in the shares of companies from the alternative energy sector in countries of the European Union, the USA, China and Japan.

The agreement is for four years. The minimum investment is 10,000 zlotys. There is no handling or management fee. CU Życie guarantees a return of 100% of the capital paid in at the end of the insurance period. The payment at the end of this period is not subject to capital gains tax (the so-called "Belka tax"). The insurance element consists of the fact that, in the event of the death of the insured during the period of the agreement, the beneficiaries will receive 103% of the amount paid in. This payment is not subject to capital gains tax.

Another important criterion is the high participation rate - or rather the customer's percentage share in the profits acquired through investment in the index which serves as the base for the product. CU has set this rate at a level of 80-90% - the final amount will be established at the end of the sales period.

The CU Guarantee New Energy product is offered, as in the past, by around 3 thousand CU agents and in four CU customer service offices in Warsaw.

"The qualitative survey which we conducted shows that the period of 4 years is the optimum period for customers who want to make a one-off large investment, since this period offers a guarantee of capital protection and the prospect of making significant profit. Clients believe that the 80-90 percent participation level is a fair proposal. The alternative energy sector, and in particular the renewable energy sector, is perceived as very interesting. Customers are aware that the rising costs of crude oil and increasing ecological awareness means that these are good times for the alternative energy sector, and therefore for possible profit from investment," highlights Marek Przybilski.
