Aviva Lithuania has paid an insurance claim that exceeded more than one million litas this year - the largest insurance claim paid in the company's history. The incident happened last summer, when a client of the company died in a car accident. Four children, two of them minors, lost their father. The company paid the entire insurance claim of 1,029,662 litas based on the conclusions of an road accident expert.
"When one loses a loved one, the financial support provided, even though it cannot bring the loved one back, can still help in difficult moments of distress. We are working responsibly so that our clients and their families, after being involved in an accident, feel financially secure about their future," the general manager of Aviva Lithuania Asta Ungulaitiene said.
The manager of the company added that this event as well as all other accidents, which are increasing in number, clearly show the necessity of life insurance.
During 2007, the number of insured accidents registered by the company, as well as insurance payouts, significantly increased. In 2007, the number of payouts almost doubled compared with 2006, from 782 to 1,436. In 2007 the sum paid out to the company's clients more than doubled compared with 2006, from 1,631,185 litas to 3,696,252 litas. In the final quarter of 2007, the number of payouts increased compared with the same period of 2006, from 264 to 438, and the sum of payouts reached 1,288,282 litas.
Statistically, oncologic and heart diseases and various injuries account for most deaths. 2007 saw an increase in deaths caused by traffic accidents. Company experts noted that deaths and accidents are taking away younger and younger people of working age, therefore financial support can help a family get back on its feet after life's painful misfortunes.
