As part of its initiatives aimed at improving the lives and health of individuals and communities in Russia, Aviva has made a donation to the charity foundation Podari Zhizn ("Give life"), one of the foremost aid organizations in Russia, which financially assist families of children with cancer. The donation will provide a piece of specialist equipment that can help save a child's life.

This donation was part of "Charity instead if gifts" project promoted by Aviva together with other members of the Russian business community. The project encourages commercial organizations to make charitable donations in lieu of traditional business gifts to their clients.

One of the founding members of "Podari Zhizn" charity a leading Russian actress Chulpan Khamatova who was recognized as the Private Person of Year 2007 by Vedomosti, the key Russian business newspaper published in association with the Wall Street Journal and The Financial Times, commented: "'Charity instead if gifts' is an innovative initiative transforming the way businesses operate in Russia, and we are grateful that Aviva actively supports it. In 2007, this initiative provided over US$600,000 for modern cancer treatment in children.

"Few people in Russia realize that treating cancer in children is possible. It is just a matter of expensive drugs and medical equipment. Our goal is to provide support for children throughout their cancer treatment. Our mission is to allow these children to experience the amount of normality in their everyday life that they deserve".

Andrey Dubinin, chairman of the management board and CEO, Aviva, Russia commented: "The goal of 'charity instead of gifts' is to reallocate our budget for client Christmas gifts to charity programmes for children.

"We were guided in this initiative by the principle of corporate social responsibility, the essence of which is to make a lasting positive contribution to the community in which we live and work. Our clients and partners fully supported the initiative, and we hope we made a difference by transforming an outdated tradition of business gifts giving and fulfilling our duty as a responsible member of society," continued Dubinin.
