Romania: Promising sales for voluntary pensions

In the first two months since the launch of voluntary pensions, Romanians have expressed their enthusiasm about the benefits offered by this savings product, but they have been hard to convince when it comes to buying one of these products.

In the first two months since the launch of voluntary pensions, Romanians have expressed their enthusiasm about the benefits offered by this savings product, but they have been hard to convince when it comes to buying one of these products. The month of July, however, showed a positive change in this story, reflected, amongst other things, in the number of signed application forms for voluntary pensions from across the whole market.

For Aviva Life Insurance, the month of July marked 867 sales of voluntary pensions.

So in total, on 31 July, the number of those who had opted for the Pensia Mea voluntary pension product offered by Aviva had reached 1197.

Shah Rouf, CEO Aviva Group Romania made the following statement with regard to the results recorded to date: "Sales of voluntary pensions have shown a promising rate of growth month on month, the factors which have influenced this growth being the tax advantages offered by the legislation in force and the international experience of the Aviva group in the pensions sector.

"We expect sales in pillar III to continue to increase, especially against the backdrop of the launch of pillar II.  We are also relying in this regard on a much more prominent raising of awareness of the Romanians' need to save for their retirement."
