It was a night to remember for the top performers of the Eagle "team with wings", Eagle Insurance Company's field sales force when they attended the company's second overseas sales convention which was held in Kuala Lumpur at the Berjaya Times Square Hotel. Over 400 participants including 287 top achievers and their spouses attended the company's overseas sales convention. This was the company's second overseas sales convention held for the second successive year, following the convention in 2006 which was held in Bangkok.
The theme of this year's Convention was "first in trust" and the need to build up trust was emphasized by Bert Patterson, managing director - Aviva India, who was the chief guest at the convention. Addressing Eagle's top performers, he advised them to treat the three words "the most trusted" as vital words in the career of a person involved in the insurance industry.
He described the convention as one meant to celebrate excellence, the success and the performance of the Eagle "team with wings". "It's also to say 'thank you' for the excellent results Eagle produced in 2006," he said.
Congratulating the participants on qualifying to attend the convention by fulfilling a number of stringent conditions, Eagle Insurance managing director Deepal Sooriyaarachchi stressed the need for every one to work towards becoming "first in trust". "What you need is commitment and the passion to do what's best for your customer", he added.
Delivering the keynote address, Ms Veerappana, a teacher turned insurance professional in Malaysia advised the audience never to be afraid of change. "I was a teacher for 10 years and then I wanted a change. I wanted a better quality of life for my family and me which I would not have been able to achieve if I didn't take a chance. I looked around and chose insurance. Against the advice of so many, I was bold enough to change. That should be your spirit. Don't restrict yourself," she said.
Comparing the professional insurance person to a professional in the field of cinema, she reminded that each person plays so many roles. "You are the director, the script writer and the actor - all in one. If you want to change the script, you have to do it. No one else can think for you or act for you. You have to do it yourself. "
Emphasising the need to be motivated all the times, she advised the audience to "Acquire knowledge throughout your life. Have a learning attitude. Be disciplined," she also underscored the importance of building trust with the clients.
General manager life distribution, Ron Cheyne and assistant general manager life sales, Chandradasa Manthriratne, also addressed the gathering.
