Kialla resident Julie Thompson is jetting off on the trip of a lifetime - as winner of Aviva's 2007 "Win a Trip to Wimbledon" competition, she and her sister Lynda Baker will travel to London where they will be centre court at the world-famous Wimbledon grand slam tennis championships this July.
The prize valued at A$24,000 was presented to Ms Thompson in Melbourne by Hayley Papal, event manager, Aviva Australia.
Almost 30,000 tennis fans competed for the major prize, which Ms Thompson was delighted to win.
"Nothing like this has ever happened to me . . . the prize is fantastic because I simply love tennis - each year, my sister and I attend the Australian Open for one day and this year, I visited the Aviva marquee, entered the competition and won."
The prize, offered in celebration of Aviva Australia's support of the Aviva Ballkids, includes return airfares to London, reserved centre court seats for the women's and men's singles finals at Wimbledon 2007, accommodation, transfers and hospitality at Wimbledon's exclusive Gatsby Club.
As proud sponsor of the Aviva Ballkids, Aviva Australia is encouraging young people throughout Australia to be involved in tennis via representation at the Australian Open, Sydney's Medibank International, Gold Coast's Mondial Australian Women's Hardcourts, Next Generation Adelaide International and Moorilla Hobart International.
The Aviva Ballkids are an important part of the tennis tournaments, according to Aviva Australia's general manager marketing and public relations Tim Cobb.
"Next year will mark four years of partnership between ourselves and Tennis Australia with our sponsorship of the Aviva Ballkids - they are a focal part of every game and make a great contribution to events running smoothly," said Tim Cobb.
"We were pleased to received a record number of applications for Aviva Ballkids for the 2008 Australian Open - by closing date on 16 March, we had received approximately 50% more applications than the previous year, which is great news for Australian tennis.
"Aviva Ballkids, which number 323 in total, are made up of young tennis enthusiasts from all over Australia, as well as Korea, China and India."
