- change·your·perspectives looks to the future
On 4 June 2007, the prominent change·your·perspectives conference will take place in the Passenger Terminal Amsterdam. Three-times Pulitzer prize-winner Thomas Friedman and professor Jules Theeuwes will share their latest insights into globalisation and outsourcing and their consequences for the Dutch welfare state. Among those responding to this will be minister Maxime Verhagen and state secretary Frank Heemskerk.
Prospect of job losses
At the conference, the organisers, Delta Lloyd group and SEO Economic Research, will shed light on the prospects for the future. SEO, affiliated to the University of Amsterdam, carries out independent applied economic research on behalf of the government and the private sector. The central focus of SEO's research is on the prospect of job losses as a result of globalisation. The main questions of the research are: what are the consequences of globalisation and the outsourcing of work to other countries for individual employees? Who will find another job quickly and who will not?
VIP panel discussion
The research, introduced by Delta Lloyd group chairman Niek Hoek and presented by Jules Theeuwes, will be put into a wider perspective by the Swedish political scientist and market expert Johnny Munkhammar and three-times Pulitzer prize-winner and journalist Thomas Friedman. Friedman wrote the authoritative book on globalisation "The world is flat". By videolink from Israel, he will describe the current state of affairs with regard to globalisation and paint a picture of the future. Jeroen Tas, whose company MphaSis specialises in outsourcing, also has a clear view on the future prospects for offshoring. With Rick van der Ploeg, professor of economics at the European University Institute in Florence and professor of political economics at the University of Amsterdam, in the chair for the day, these four VIP experts will debate the results of the research. An initial response to these views will be given by state secretary for economic affairs Frank Heemskerk, whilst minister of foreign affairs Maxime Verhagen will shed light on the consequences for the Netherlands from an international perspective. Finally, the economist Nahied Rezwani will comment on the possible effects on our welfare system. In the end, the results of the discussion will be translated into concrete solutions and an overall conclusion, in which delegates can also participate.
change·your·perspectives is an initiative of Delta Lloyd group in conjunction with SEO Economic Research from the University of Amsterdam on the occasion of the 200th anniversary of Delta Lloyd group this year and produced by IdtV.
The conference is part of Delta Lloyd group's Future Secured strategy, whose main aim is to look out for the financial sustainability of its clients. The conference is also part of Amsterdam Sustainability Week (see www.duurzaam-amsterdam.nl), of which Delta Lloyd group is one of the founders.
