Today, Tom Godlasky, chief executive of Aviva plc's new North American Region, announced that Robin Spencer has been appointed to the role of President and CEO of Aviva Canada Inc, effective 12 July, 2007.
Prior to his appointment, Robin was executive vice-president and chief financial officer with Aviva Canada Inc.
"Robin's accomplishments, experience, and ability to drive organizational success will be a real asset to the Aviva Canada team," said Tom. "His tenure with the Aviva group gives him an insightful perspective on the business."
Tom added: "The new president and CEO will build on the strong foundation laid by Aviva Canada's outgoing president and CEO, Igal Mayer."
"I'm so happy that the successful candidate is not just from Aviva, but a member of our Canadian team - it certainly speaks to the quality of the senior management group," said Igal Mayer, whose new role as chief executive for Norwich Union General Insurance was announced on 23 April 2007.
"I've worked closely with Robin on many initiatives, and know that the business will be in good hands," Igal added. "He's passionate about driving success for Aviva and is very focused on achieving Aviva's strategic vision."
In his role as CFO and EVP, Robin was responsible for the overall financial management of the company. In addition, he set corporate performance management strategies and ensured that the Aviva group of companies met and exceeded all statutory and regulatory reporting requirements.
Prior to his appointment as CFO and EVP at Aviva Canada (January 2005), Robin was global finance transformation director for Aviva plc. Before that, he worked in Group Finance in London and held numerous senior finance roles with Norwich Union Insurance, and was finance director for London & Edinburgh, a subsidiary of Aviva. Prior to joining Aviva in 1995, he spent five years with Proctor & Gamble in the UK.
Robin will work closely with Igal in the coming weeks to ensure a seamless transition into his new role. He will also devote time to meeting employees and brokers across the country.
