Morley Fund Management, home to one of the City’s largest credit teams, has appointed David Burgess to the newly created position of head of private placements in response to growth in its private placement business.

Reporting to Morley’s head of credit Paul Mingay, David joined the team in September. He is responsible for identifying new private placement investments and monitoring existing agreements.

Morley Fund Management’s head of credit Paul Mingay said the role was previously incorporated within the team but Morley’s credit business has grown to the size that requires a full-time placement specialist.

“Private placements have become an important component in helping to deliver strong, consistent returns to clients in a demanding credit environment. We’ve hired David because our private placement business has grown to a size that needs a specialist. I am delighted that he has joined the team.”

Prior to joining Morley, David worked at MetLife for more than 13 years as head of investment grade debt, where he was responsible for a European portfolio in excess of US$9 billion in public bonds and privately-placed securities. Before this, he worked at Fitch Ratings as head of corporate ratings for more than five years. David has more than 20 years’ investment experience in both private placement and leveraged loan transactions.

Morley’s credit team manages more than Ł24bn in assets* and employs more than 25 fund managers and investment analysts located in London and Boston.
