Lex, the UK’s number one contract hire and leasing company, has signed a six-year contract with RAC for roadside assistance and glass replacement across its fleet of 175,000 vehicles.

The contract, worth Ł60 million, consolidates the existing long term partnership between the two companies. Last year, RAC’s dedicated fleet centre in Stretford, Manchester, handled around 100,000 calls from Lex customers for assistance and attended around 60,000 breakdowns. RAC Auto Windscreens in Chesterfield took over 13,000 calls from Lex customers and replaced around 10,000 windscreens and windows via a national network of 140 fitting centres.

The RAC support team makes regular visits to Lex sites in Stockport, Stirling and Marlow to assist Lex colleagues and support their customers.

Ian Thomson, general manager – Driver Services, of Lex, said: "The award of this contract is excellent news for both parties. It clearly demonstrates the faith we have in RAC and RAC Auto Windscreens to continue to provide the highest levels of service to Lex customers and the length of the arrangement will allow both organisations to develop long term strategies to improve the service levels still further.

"Lex prides itself on our service levels and we are delighted to be partnering RAC into the future."

Simon Cage, head of fleet at RAC, said: "We are delighted to renew our contract with Lex, which reflects the excellent partnership that we have developed over the years. We have everything in place to ensure that we continue to offer the highest levels of customer service.

“We believe that RAC has the most comprehensive offering of fleet products of any company – providing a 'one-stop shop' for valuable customers such as Lex. Looking ahead, we are continuing to invest in new technology to ensure that our roadside and glass replacement service delivery is second to none."
