Dunlop MSA British Touring Car competitors Team RAC are pleased to show their support for the inaugural National Motorsport Week, to be held across the country from 12-20 August.
In support of the activity both Team RAC touring cars will feature the National Motorsport Week logo as they compete in the sixth round of the BTCC at Donington Park this weekend.
The Motor Sports Association (MSA) and the Motorsport Industry Association (MIA) created the initiative to raise national and local media awareness of UK motorsport and industry. It is hoped that the campaign will attract new audiences and participants to the sport.
On supporting the initiative Team RAC principal, Dick Bennetts said: "Motorsport is a major player in British industry and we ourselves compete not just on a domestic level but on a worldwide stage, with A1GP. In 1972 I left New Zealand to further my motorsport career and I consider the UK to be the World centre of excellence. Our sponsor RAC has demonstrated its commitment to motorsport by returning to BTCC after the organisation was originally involved in the championship when it was established in 1958. It’s important to attract new investors, personnel and supporters to the sport to maintain a healthy industry for future years to come."
Chris Aylett, MIA chief executive added: "It’s great news that Team RAC are supporting National Motorsport Week in the BTCC. Everyone can enjoy Motorsport but at times it is seen as a little too exclusive. This activity is opening our arms to everyone who may not have yet enjoyed motorsport to see how fun and accessible it can be. The concept is a simple one – take a mate to motorsport."
