Hibernian general insurance, announced today, Monday 31 July that it is offering all of its 200,000 plus home insurance customers free access to An Post’s MailMinder service. Hibernian is Ireland’s largest composite general insurer, ranked first for general insurance and top three for life and pensions.
Though an arrangement with An Post, Hibernian’s home insurance customers nationwide can avail of An Post MailMinder service free of charge, once a year for up to four weeks. The service overcomes the problem of post building up while homeowners are away, which is a signal to burglars that the house is unattended.
In 2005, An Garda Síochána reported 17,598 residential burglaries, an 8% increase on 2004.
Pat Kenny, product manager for home and travel, Hibernian said: “One simple step which customers can take to protect their home if they are going to be away is to avoid letting post build up on the doormat which is a clear indication to burglars that the house in unoccupied.”
The MailMinder service operates by suspending mail delivery during the specified time the occupiers indicate that they will be away, either in Ireland or overseas. To apply for the service all homeowners need to do is complete the An Post MailMinder form and allow five working days for the service to be activated before their departure.
