UK: Norwich Union highlights the need for full disclosure

Norwich Union is introducing a factsheet for customers that highlights the importance of completing insurance application forms accurately. The aim is to reduce the number of customer claims that are rejected as a result of non-disclosure. From 23 June, Norwich Union will include the sheet in all information packs for protection products.

The factsheet advises customers on completing forms and stresses the need for people to disclose all the information that is requested. It also highlights the fact that an insurer can only provide cover where it knows all the facts about the person they are insuring.

Tony Jupp, chief underwriter at Norwich Union, said: “Most people buy insurance products to protect them and their family in the event of something unforeseen happening. However, an insurer can provide cover for people only where they have all the information they asked for on the application form.

“With the introduction of this information sheet, we are underlining the importance of completing application forms carefully. Even now, one-in-five* applicants think that we will automatically contact their doctor to ask for medical information but this simply isn’t the case.

“People need to take their time when reading insurance application forms and complete them very carefully. We want to be able to help people should they make a claim, but to do this we need them to complete their application forms fully, truthfully and accurately”.
