Aviva has committed itself to more growth and deeper industry linkages through its newest appointments – three national distribution development managers (DDMs).

Melbourne-based Adam McKenzie is specialising in corporate super, Sydney-based Maria Mazur will concentrate on investment and John Ashton will specialise in risk.

Adam McKenzie comes to the position after seven years in the financial services industry. Most recently, he has been working with Navigator’s Business Super, focusing on SME and large business super funds. He has a total of 14 years specialising in business-to-business sales.

Before working in financial services, Adam held senior executive positions in the hospitality industry in New Zealand and Australia.

He is currently studying for a master of business degree at Charles Sturt University.

This is Maria Mazur’s third appointment in the five years she has been with Aviva. She started as an assistant technical manager, specialising in retirement income streams, then worked for three years as a business development manager (BDM) for Navigator in NSW.

Maria has worked in financial services for the nine years she had lived in Australia and holds degrees in mathematics and education from her native Ukraine.

John Ashton has been a BDM for Aviva for more than 20 months. Before that he was national insurance manager with the Lonsdale financial group, a position he held for seven years.

He also spent 12 years as a life specialist with AMP and has worked as an underwriter, handling claims and also as an adviser.

Paul Northey, Aviva’s general manager distribution, said: “The DDMs form a virtual business unit that acts as a conduit between the BDM, the unit and the market. They will stay close to other business units to leverage off their initiatives.

“These newest appointments reflect Aviva’s strategy to build new partnerships and grow ongoing business. Aviva recently announced a 31% profit lift for 2005. These new DDMs, together with the nine additional BDMs appointed so far this year, point to Aviva’s ongoing growth.”
