Above average performance for below average volatility has seen investors increasingly choosing Navigator’s Pre Select investment options, rather than struggling with tailoring individual investment strategies.
According to Rob Donaghy, Navigator’s group director products, marketing and public affairs, the second half of 2005 saw significant growth for Navigator’s Pre Select funds driven by an excellent risk-adjusted performance and a growing demand for well constructed multi-manager funds. The Pre Select funds under management now exceeds A$750 million.
Navigator’s Pre Select funds have also recently been endorsed by leading research house Lonsec, who gave the funds an "Investment Grade" rating, citing their "transparent investment styles and clearly defined fund objectives".
The Pre Select Australian Equity and Pre Select International Equity funds continue to deliver strong returns for investors. This reflects the quality of the underlying managers selected for their proven track record of delivering superior investment performance in both domestic and overseas shares over a long term.
The Australian sharemarket performed strongly in the second half of 2005 with the S&P/ASX 300 Accumulation Index returning 13.94% for the six month period. The Pre Select Australian Equity fund has outperformed this benchmark by 0.35%.
Global sharemarkets also performed well across this period with the MSCI World Accumulation Index (net dividends in A$) returning 14.60%. The Pre Select International Equities fund outperformed this benchmark by 1.07% providing a return of 15.67%.
“The outperformance in these key asset classes also translated into strong returns across the whole range of Pre Select diversified funds. On a risk adjusted basis, Navigator’s Pre Select funds were clearly the star performers in 2005,” said Rob.
Pre Select investing is the process of choosing where you want to be situated on the risk/return scale and investing with a number of specialist managers rather than choosing one or a number of single investment manager portfolios.
“Investors choose a Pre Select fund for a number of reasons, for example they can be especially attractive for those with lower balances who are still looking to diversify their investment portfolio,” says Rob. “However they can also work well for investors with higher balances who are looking to invest with a number of quality investment managers at a competitive price,” he said.
Pre Select funds span the risk/return spectrum to provide a suitable option for all investors. Within each Pre Select fund, the asset allocations and specialist fund managers are chosen on the advice of leading asset consultant, Mercer Investment Consulting.
“This means investors only need to think about their risk profile and choose a suitable fund from the Pre Select range. The hard work of selecting the best fund managers is already done,” said Rob.
“The fund managers are sector specialists and their selection ensures style diversification offering a rounded mix of active, index enhanced and index management. There is also a regular re-balancing of the asset allocation to the strategic benchmark and ongoing monitoring and review of each fund and related fund managers,” said Rob.
The Pre Select funds are available on Navigator Personal Investment Plan, Navigator Personal Retirement Plan, Navigator Access Investment, Navigator Access Super and Pension and Navigator Super Solutions.
