Australia: The loneliest woman in the world

Currently, sailing 200 Km south of Tasmania and still battling treacherous waters in the Southern Ocean on the yacht Aviva, lone sailor Dee Caffari could be forgiven for feeling as if she is the loneliest woman in the world.

Currently, sailing 200 Km south of Tasmania and still battling treacherous waters in the Southern Ocean on the yacht Aviva, lone sailor Dee Caffari could be forgiven for feeling as if she is the loneliest woman in the world.

Dee's voyage The Aviva Challenge began on 20 September 2005, when she set sail from the United Kingdom on her quest to become the first woman to sail solo, non stop around the world against prevailing winds and currents.

Celebrating her 33 birthday on board Aviva on 23 January, Dee felt for the first time in her journey a little warmth from the sun - a testament to the fact she was heading towards a Southern hemisphere summer.

On her journey so far, Dee has battled erratic weather conditions, faulty equipment and even a tropical cyclone. There is also the challenge of little or no wind and trying to keep the yacht Aviva moving forward.

A website is available providing the latest pictures, audio interviews with Dee, a progress tracker, and contact details in order to arrange questions for an on-board interview with Dee.

To track Dee's progress, or arrange media questions via the multi-media locker, please visit www.avivachallenge.com.
