Delta Lloyd Verzekeringen has decided to accept letters of cancellation up to three years old for proposals for new motor insurance policies. The letter of cancellation contains the claims history of the insured and therefore serves as proof of claim-free driving.
The reason for the ‘extension’ is that people are becoming increasingly flexible with regard to the use of their car and purchasing a new one. It is also more common for them to live abroad for periods of time, hire a car, share a car with others or use public transport. Delta Lloyd is responding to this trend by extending the validity of letters of cancellation.
Most Dutch letters of cancellation are valid for up to one year after they are issued.
This subject was also discussed in the TROS Radar programme on 9 May.
Conditions
Delta Lloyd insists as a condition of acceptance that the proposer and/or the regular driver of the car has not been responsible for causing any damage since the letter of cancellation was issued. They must also be able to provide proof of their use of the car and any motor insurance in the intervening period.
