Small and medium-sized businesses can obtain essential risk management advice free of charge via a new web site launched by Norwich Union – the UK’s largest insurer.
RiskManager helps businesses to identify workplace hazards and implement measures to minimise risk to employees and members of the public; to comply with legislation and to prevent financial loss caused through accidents and injury.
Content on the web site includes plain language fact sheets prepared by Norwich Union’s risk experts, risk assessment checklists, accident report forms and links to the Health and Safety Executive.
Basic advice and guidance focuses on topics such as emergencies, manual handling, workplace equipment and occupational health, while a "Beyond the Basics" section considers a wide range of issues including electrical safety, hazardous substances, display screen equipment, managing employee absence and workplace stress.
A "Health Check" tool allows users to self-assess their current risk management performance through a questionnaire.
Phil Grace, Norwich Union risk manager, says: "Businesses not only have a moral and ethical obligation to protect their employees from harm in the workplace, but also a legal duty.
"In pure business terms, accidents cost money – whether they become insurance claims or not. In the aftermath of a workplace incident, the cost of physical or policy changes designed to prevent future occurrences have to be met by the company."
