Today, British long jump record holder Chris Tomlinson was on hand to coach children from All Saints Catholic High School in Sheffield in the lead up to the Norwich Union European Trials & AAAs at the English Institute of Sport.

The event, organised by sponsors Norwich Union, was aimed at inspiring and encouraging the next generation of athletes in the area. It also forms part of Norwich Union’s ‘Do the Right Thing’ campaign – a commitment to encourage and enable children to pursue a more active lifestyle and help fight obesity.

By expanding the existing grassroots athletics programmes and introducing mass participatory events and initiatives, Norwich Union is looking to boost sports participation levels in a fun and engaging way for all shapes and sizes.

Daren Carter, head of brand and promotions for Norwich Union, said: "Athletics is the only sport in Britain that has excellent male and female role models who can inspire and motivate youngsters to get involved in sport. We want to help ensure that future generations are healthy and we are in a great position to enable them to access fun sporting outlets."

Chris Tomlinson added: "This is a great opportunity for children to come and try athletics, and with more events like this around the country organised by Norwich Union we hope to encourage and inspire more children to take part in sporting activities. Who knows, we may just have seen some future Olympians here today."
