Poland’s Insurance and Pension Funds Supervisory Committee today gave its permission for the appointment of Michał Szymański as member of the management board of Commercial Union Pension Fund Company.
As investment director of CU Pension, Michał Szymański has been responsible since 1 December 2004 for management of the assets of the largest pension fund in Poland, and one of the largest funds of its type in Europe. He is in charge of the eight-strong Investment Section which manages assets with a value of over 18 billion zlotys. CU Pension Fund is one of the largest institutional investors in the Polish equities and debt instruments market.
Michał Szymański is 33. He has a PhD in economics and is a graduate of the Warsaw School of Economics. He holds the prestigious CFA title (Chartered Financial Analyst). Since 1996, when he became a licensed investment advisor, his career has been linked to the capital market.
From 1996 to 1998 he worked in the Portfolio Management Department at Creditanstalt Securities in Warsaw, and from 1998 at ING Investment Management, a company managing assets with a value of over 6 billion zlotys. At ING he was investment advisor and deputy investment director, and he was responsible for the management of investment funds and portfolios for both institutional and individual clients. He also coordinated equity market analyses.
Since the launch of pensions reform in 1999, CU Pension has been the unchallenged market leader, in terms of both number of clients (over 2.5 million) and asset value (its market share is approximately 28%).
The management board of CU Pension Fund Company is currently made up of: Piotr Szczepiórkowski (general manager), Krzysztof Cetnar (board member), Andrzej Gładysz (board member), and Michał Szymański (board member).
