Norwich Union has appointed Andy Keane as motor underwriting manager for its commercial motor and motor fleet business.
Mr Keane has been promoted to the position from his previous role as senior motor underwriter with the company. He brings more than 18 years underwriting and marketing experience to the post.
He will be responsible for helping to shape the strategic direction of Norwich Union’s commercial motor account and for maintaining fleet underwriting standards and discipline across the UK. He commented: "While we’ve been encouraged by the generally sensible approach shown by the market to date, the next three to six months will be a critical period for the fleet sector and the industry at large. My primary focus will be to maintain pricing integrity, while continuing to improve risk selection. By writing quality business for added value not volume, we can help minimise the effects of the underwriting cycle and increase premium stability."
Mr Keane will also be supporting new risk management initiatives, such as the recent Norwich Union ‘Driving at Work’ CD-ROM toolkit, designed to help fleet customers manage occupational road risk.
"Well over 90% of all fleets are managed by people with more than one job function and little time to devote to the task," he added. "The insurance industry has an important role to play in helping these part-time fleet managers to reduce accidents by supplying straightforward, back-to-basics risk management advice, in an accessible format. "
Telematics will be another core focus, following Norwich Union’s recent launch of the UK’s first fleet insurance product based on telematics technology.
"The continuous development of telematics over the next few years makes motor insurance a very interesting sector to be involved in. Following our successful pilot, we are aiming to increase our understanding to offer our customers even more bespoke risk management advice in the future."
With an intermediary business network of 54 offices, Norwich Union is the UK’s largest fleet insurer and has the largest motor risk assessment capability in the market.
