Norwich Union Risk Services is hosting a series of seminars for brokers and health and safety managers on the implications of the new Working at Height Regulations, due to come into force early 2005.

Held across the UK, the seminars will outline ways in which all risk professionals can help avoid accidents caused by working at height.

By removing the old two-metre limit, the new Regulations will now affect people across a huge range of industries working with equipment ranging from kick stools and stepladders to scaffolding and work access platforms.

Brian Wallace, head of Norwich Union Risk Services, said: "Working at height is the UK’s most dangerous accident category, resulting in 70 fatalities and around 5,000 serious injuries a year.

"We welcome the HSE’s decision to introduce more stringent regulations, which include implementing formal procedures for identifying hazards, guidelines on selecting work equipment and introducing safe working practices.

"We would urge risk professionals to prepare for the legislative challenges ahead by ensuring they are up to date with the latest guidelines."
