- Aviva initiates Mosaic project with Hong Kong Youth Arts Festival to children from four local social organizations
Aviva, a leading general insurance company in Hong Kong, today held a cocktail party at the Fringe Club, celebrating the wrapping-up of the Mosaic project 2004.
Aimed at providing opportunities for 66 children from four different social organizations to demonstrate their creativity, Aviva is proud to be the sole sponsor of the project organized by the Hong Kong Youth Arts Festival (YAF).
Aviva gave full support to the Mosaic project, setting an example to encourage corporations to carry out more community service initiatives. Through this project, Aviva staff demonstrated their passion to dedicate their time and talent to making the community a better place. The benefiting organizations of this project included International Social Service, Chinese YMCA of Hong Kong Siu Sai Wan Centre, Hong Kong Sheung Kung Hui St Christopher’s Home and Jockey Club Parents Resource Centre, Heep Hong Society.
Jackson Tang, business services manager of Aviva, said: "Aviva endeavours to manage our business activities in a responsible manner, believing that sound and demonstrable performance in relation to corporate social responsibility policies and practices is a fundamental part of business success. As a corporate participant of the ‘Caring Company’ program, Aviva has been very keen on participating in various community service programs to become a good corporate citizen in Hong Kong. We partnered with YAF to organize the Mosaic project, provided sole sponsorship and volunteered our staff to help the children build up their interest in arts as well as improve their social skills."
A total of three workshops were conducted during August. Under the guidance and help of Aviva volunteers, YAF officials and project artist Gareth Dunstar, participants cut and pasted colourful pieces of tiles to fill the pattern according to their own drawings. 33 Mosaic pieces will be installed in CityPlaza as decorations for the mall in December.
Lindsey McAlister, director and founder of Hong Kong Youth Arts Festival, said: "Hong Kong Youth Arts Festival is a non-profit making, non-competitive, charitable status organization providing high quality arts opportunities for young people of all cultures, backgrounds and abilities. We really appreciate Aviva’s tremendous support on both the sponsorship and volunteers’ participation in the project. We hope that other companies in the private sector will extend their support for arts activities for local youngsters."
In addition, Aviva employees participated in "Arts in the Plaza", an annual arts play day organized by YAF. This year’s event was held at Stanley Plaza on 31 October. Aviva employees enjoyed the day experiencing with different art forms, new arts technique and exercising their creative flair!
Aviva will continue to allocate its resources on social welfare activities through partnerships with various social organizations. Aviva understands the real needs of the community and will continue to organize activities for them to make Hong Kong a more caring and harmonious place to live in.
