Delta Lloyd Securities has announced a refocus of its research universe, based on the changing requirements of clients, both internal and external to the group. Research will in future be focused more on "idea driven" analysis, and will be linked to a broader programme of sales and marketing activities.
Delta Lloyd Securities research clusters and core proposition
The updated Research scope results in the creation of five clusters’ of companies which will be followed by the analysts. These clusters will be largely formed around the following sectors currently covered:
- Telecom/media/technology (TMT)
- Consumer
- Financials
- Utilities/energy/chemicals
- Business services
The core proposition of Delta Lloyd Securities which has been used as the basis for these clusters has been restated as follows:
The research team of Delta Lloyd Securities analyses Dutch and Belgian companies in depth, as well as relevant companies on other European markets, delivering expertise in a systematic and structured way, reflecting the changing economic climate in our core Benelux market.
As a member of the Euronext and Xetra markets, we believe the fundamental strengths of Delta Lloyd Securities lie in these markets. Hence Delta Lloyd Securities also identifies French and German companies which will enhance our Benelux coverage. Certain relevance tests will be applied in the selection of these stocks, for example (i) stocks which are necessary to understand Benelux stocks better (eg Carrefour as a dominant food retailer in the Benelux region), and (ii) natural links such as via shareholder structures (eg Suez, given its relevance for Electrabel).
Regarding the regional coverage, the percentage of Dutch and Belgian stocks in the universe will increase from 59% to 77%. Additionally each analyst will follow a limited number of "reference stocks" which are of great relevance to the sector and to the stocks which the analyst follows.
Coverage of these stocks will be limited to the analysis of its implications for stocks within the universe. Examples may include Vodafone, Intel and Wal-Mart.
Research Product: less "maintenance", more "idea driven" research
The effect of these changes will be to reduce the breadth of the coverage but to increase its depth.
The intention is to provide greater insight and value-added to the clients. Delta Lloyd Securities will also be adapting its relative rating system.
Institutional Sales and Marketing
The level of service provided to institutional clients will be enhanced by greater direct contact from Delta Lloyd Securities’ team of independent analysts. The company intends to deliver its sector expertise more effectively to both institutional and private clients.
Following the recent hiring of additional institutional sales people in Amsterdam, Delta Lloyd Securities will continue its efforts to strengthen the institutional sales team in Antwerp.
Events such as the Digital Cinema Roadshow, the Annual Delta Lloyd Securities Investment conference and numerous other roadshows will be held by the company in future, based around the specified research clusters.
