UK: Norwich Union volunteers help rebuild garden for children's charity

The summary sits under the headline on the news index page and is usually the opening paragraph of the release

Nine volunteers from the Norwich Union E-ifa team transformed a section of the garden at the NCH Rectory project in King’s Lynn, Norfolk. The team came from as far a field as Cheltenham, Manchester, Newcastle, Norwich, Sheffield and Worthing.

The volunteers installed a set of wooden steps to give the NCH Sure Start Project access to their play shed, they pruned and weeded the area and painted the shed so it looked brand new. The team also cleaned the patio, added pots filled with flowers, a new bench and birdbath – and when they cleaned the patio they discovered a gravestone dating back to 1724.

Norwich Union launched a five-year Ł1.4 million partnership with NCH in June last year. The children’s charity aims to support, educate and build the confidence of some of the UK’s most vulnerable young people. Offering staff members the chance to make a difference in their local communities by participating in staff volunteering is a key element of this partnership.

Norwich Union’s head of sponsorship David Czerwinski said: "This project will make a real difference to those using the garden; it gave the Norwich Union team the opportunity to work together and develop new skills. The support of local businesses was also invaluable in the success of this project."
